In July 2015, visitors to the Fünf Höfe shopping mall in Munich were treated to a super special pop-up performance. Amazon wanted to put on something truly memorable to promote its original series Mozart in the Jungle.
The idea was to hold a surprise classical concert, in keeping with the theme of the series, which centers around a new conductor joining the New York Philharmonic. G.R.A.L. GmbH was able to persuade the Munich Philharmonic to take part in the plan.
A fake construction site was erected in Fünf Höfe, the purpose of which was actually to conceal a 30-strong orchestra. Shoppers were treated to a big surprise when the screens were dropped to reveal the orchestra and the musicians launched into their one-hour concert.
G.R.A.L. assisted Amazon Instant Video throughout the entire process – from finding the location to obtaining the required permits, staging the performance and follow-up.
